Louisa Katherine Thomson

I am an illustrator and printmaker inspired and driven by narrative and storytelling. I have always had an undefinable gravitation to the Scottish coast, and the powerful imagery and enchanting stories of my country’s landscape and its people have always captivated me.

While at Edinburgh College of Art I started my printmaking journey and began to explore my family’s fisherfolk history and fell in love with the stories of Scotland’s ‘Herring Lasses’. The girls’ independence, diligence and sense of female camaraderie and friendship captured my imagination and are a large focus of my work. Their collective memories combined with stories passed down by my own relatives and my natural lifelong pull to my native Scottish coast continue to be a profound inspiration for my work.

Drawing is a fundamental part of my creative process and all of my finished designs begin as hand drawn illustrations in my studio in Edinburgh. My works, including greetings cards, lino prints and larger wall prints, are all inspired by people’s lives and the stories they leave behind.
