LOUISA KATHERINE THOMSON

Louisa  Katherine Thomson is an illustrator and printmaker based in Edinburgh. Her work is continually inspired and driven by the stories, history, language and landscape of Scotland. The powerful imagery and enchanting stories of her country and its people have always been captivating. Louisa’s current work tells the story of Scotland’s 'Herring Lasses’ and life on the Scottish coast.

While at Edinburgh College of Art, Louisa began to explore her family’s fisherfolk history and nurtured a love of storytelling through illustration. Collective memories and stories passed down by Louisa’s relatives and her natural lifelong pull to her native Scottish coast will always be a profound inspiration for her work.

Drawing is a fundamental part of Louisa’s creative process and all of her finished designs begin as hand drawn illustrations in her studio in Edinburgh. Her work reflects people’s lives and the stories they leave behind.
